What is New Media?

New media is a broad term that appears at the end of the 20th century to include the incorporation of traditional media such as movies, pictures, music, spoken and written word, with the interactive power of computers and communication technology, computer and consumer activated device of the most important Internet . New media held out the possibility of on-demand access to content anytime, anywhere, on any digital device, as well as an interactive user feedback, creative participation and community formation around media content. What distinguishes new media from traditional media rather than to a bit digitization of media content, but the dynamic life of the “new media” content and interactive relationship with the consumer media. Life is dynamic, moving, breathing and flowing with the pulsating excitement in real time. Another important promise of the New Media is the “democratization” of, the issuance of the creation of distribution, and consumption of media content.

Thus, high-definition digital television broadcasts seen on a plasma TV movie digital still an example of traditional media, while the “analog” paper poster of a local rock band containing the web address where fans can find information and download digital music are examples of media communication new.

Most of the technologies described as “new media” are digital, often having characteristics of being manipulated, through a network, dense, compressible, interactive and impartial. Some examples may be the Internet, websites, multimedia computers, computer games, CD-ROM, and DVD. The new media are not television programs, movies, magazines, books, or paper-based publications – unless they contain technology that enables digital interactivity, such as graphics-tag containing a web link.
